Tuesday 31st August

We had yet another very bad night. Abigail was awake so often and then DJ woke up from 3 a.m and didn't get back to sleep until nearly 7 o'clock this morning. Penri actually went into DJ's room at about 4.30 to try and help him to get back to sleep but all Dylan wanted to do was play and mess about so in the end Penri came out of there. We were all SO tired this morning!! Dylan didn't wake up until 10 a.m and only then because I went in to wake him. Abi went back to sleep (having got up at 6 a.m) at 8.45 for half an hour and Pen slept in until 2 p.m! I didn't manage to get back to sleep so it's now 9.10 p.m and I am exhausted!!

It's been a bit of a busy, manic day. I ordered a taxi (Tyagi) for 10.30 to take us to run some errands. First we went to the Post Office. I had almost forgotten what Indian Post Offices are like … they never have air conditioning so it's always extremely hot in there and there are just so many people trying to push in and shoving their letters and parcels at the people behind the counter. I posted a letter and Tyagi was trying to get my parcel posted to Mel. Would you believe they wouldn't accept it because it was wrapped in a plastic packaging?! I wrapped it in one of those official Royal Mail thick plastic envelope things and they refused to post it. Tyagi told me the woman said it was too tempting for people to open it. What crap! I'm sorry, but if they're going to steal it, they're going to steal it! What's the rubbish about the packaging?! So, apparently I have to wrap it in thick paper or something! Nightmare!

We left the Post Office and headed across the highway to a shop called Anokhi. I used to love this shop in Chennai. They sell Indian style clothes, bedding and little nik-naks. The one here is in a shopping mall called Galaxy Towers which is a fairly small mall. Anyway, about 5 minutes before arriving there, Abigail had fallen asleep on my shoulder, which was great because she really needed to sleep. We got to the entrance to the mall, Tyagi set the pushchair up and I managed to lay Abi in without waking her. I got Dylan in the front and in we went. Got the shop and guess what … it was closed!! It's Tuesday and most shops/malls in Gurgaon (or in India probably) are closed because it is considered and inauspicious day. Anyway, I was really annoyed that 1) I had wasted our time going there; 2) I had forgotten it was Tuesday and 3) that Abi didn't get to sleep because as soon as I took her out of the pushchair to get back in the car she woke up. After the two unsuccessful things so far, I decided to call it quits and go home. I asked Tyagi to pick us up on Thursday afternoon to go shopping then instead.

We got home at about 12.30 and I made Dylan his lunch and then took Abigail for her nap. She wouldn't settle for a long time. I finally got her to sleep but she only slept for about half an hour! The rest of the afternoon flew by because I decided to clear out the play room. I took everything out of the room (including all the play mats) and then when Raj Kumar arrived at 3, I asked him to sweep and mop the floor really well before I put everything back in. I decided not to put the play mats back in as they are such a hassle to clean underneath as every time you lift them the letters all fall out. I also took down the castle to make more space and it looks so good in there now.

The afternoon went by as normal and at 6 p.m I made Dylan's dinner. While he was eating I got Abigail washed and dressed for bed and then I put her in the walker while I washed and dressed DJ. I got them both to bed and then I went to make myself (and Penri) some dinner.
